This cowl is worked in the round in a simple, attractive Chevron Lace pattern using my popular Merino DK base. Merino DK is an incredibly soft, squishy 100% Superwash Merino wool.
Size: Appx. 42" circumference x 13" tall after blocking
Skill Level: Easy/Advanced Beginner
You should feel comfortable with the following techniques/stitches:
Working in the round, knit stitch, knit 2 together, yarn over, slip-slip-knit, purl stitch
You will receive:
Digital pattern and 2 skeins of Merino DK
You will need:
US Size 8 circular needle, 24"
Stitch marker
Yarn needle/crochet hook for weaving in ends.
Blocking mat, wires/pins, wool wash or gentle soap - you can pin your project out onto the floor or a bed, or anywhere it won't be disturbed while drying if you don't have mats.
The pattern is completely written out, and a chart is included for the Chevron Lace.

Purl-Twist Knot Stitch: Multiple of 4 Rounds 1 and 3: knit Round 2: *k2, p2tog and leave on needle, p first st again, then drop from needle Round 4: *p2tog and leave on needle, p first st again, then drop from needle, k2 Pattern: Cast on 152 sts, join to knit in the round and place marker Work 4 rounds k2 p2 rib Work 10 repeats of Purl-Twist Knot Stitch Work 4 rounds k2 p2 rib
Bind off, block, weave in ends. I made this fairly narrow with a large circumference so I could wear it wrapped twice. You can make the circumference smaller by casting on fewer stitches, making sure that you subtract by 4 (the stitch multiple). Depending on how much smaller you go, you may need to use a 16" circular. The cowl can be made taller by working additional repeats of the Purl-Twist Knot stitch. If you want a cowl even larger in circumference, cast on more stitches, being sure that you still have a multiple of four. Keep in mind any size adjustments may require more yarn. Feel free to sell finished items made using this pattern.
This is an easy lace pattern that takes only one hank of my Triple Luxury DK yarn, or you may substitute 3.5 oz / 252 yds of a similar yarn. Sample was knit with the color Forest Dusk.
The finished size after blocking is appx. 30"x12". Notes are given for making the cowl larger.
You will need to be comfortable working in the round on circular needles, know how to knit, purl, yo, slip/pass slipped stitches over.
You will need a 24" US size 8 circular needle, a stitch marker, yarn needle for weaving in loose ends, and wool wash or gentle soap (optional).
Pattern is written with a chart for the main stitch used.
Here is a new free pattern for you all. This uses Patons Roving yarn and US 11 needles, so it is a super quick knit.
You will need to know how to knit, knit through the back loop, slip stitches, and slip stitches purlwise through the back loop. This is knit in the round, so you should also be comfortable using circular needles. That said, it is a fairly simple pattern.
I did a video on this stitch pattern back in August of 2012, and have wanted to make something with it ever since. It took a while to get around to it :-)

Here is my latest cowl design, the Easy Peasy Reversible Cowl!
If you can knit in the round, and make knits and purls, then you can make this cowl. The cowl is knit with just one skein of my Merino DK. (231 yds/211 m - 3.5 oz/100 gr 100% superwash merino wool DK weight)
The stitch pattern creates a beautiful fabric on both sides, so you can just throw it on without worrying that the 'wrong' side is showing.
It is also very easy to make the cowl larger - as written it is appx. 38" x 8-1/2". Instructions are given within the pattern for making a larger size. Keep in mind, the bigger you make it, the more yarn you will need.
You will need a US size 6 circular needle, 24", a stitch marker and yarn needle for weaving in the ends also.

Here is my latest pattern - another cowl! I purchased this yarn at The Memory Tree and Yarn Branch a few weeks ago. I couldn't think of any better way to use this yarn. It is soft, light and airy, but will keep your neck nice and warm. So soft and cuddly, it is just exquisite! I had fun knitting this cowl; the pattern is easy to remember, and after a few repeats you won't even need to look at the pattern. It also works up pretty quickly. This is perfect for the spring or fall, when the evenings are still chilly. Also great for those restaurants that like to crank up the AC in summer time!
This is knit in the round in one piece, so there is no seaming. Just a few ends to weave in.

I designed a cowl for my favorite time of year that uses the Acorn Cable Stitch, and a yarn that reflects the colors of fall. You can use any color you choose, of course!

Hobby Lobby Visit
I recently went to Hobby Lobby for the first time. I loved their selection of knitting books, and while I typically do not knit with acrylic yarn, they did have some nice yarn also. There were a few I liked, but in the end only got a few skeins of Andes Alpaca by Yarn Bee, in the color Camino. I have decided to make my first top down shawl with this yarn. I also got two pairs of rosewood needles - one having an inlay of mother of pearl on the top. As you all know, I love my Addi Turbo neeldes, but am quickly becoming fond of the rosewood needles!
Autumn Acorn Cowl
This is my latest pattern, which is available for purchase on Craftsy. This is a quick knit, using Lighthouse Waves yarn featuring the Acorn Cable stitch. Even if you have never knit cables before, this is an easy stitch. There is also a video tutorial of the stitch incase you need help with it. I know the weather is beginning to warm up, and probably the last thing on your mind is making something to keep you warm. The mornings and evenings are still rather chilly, and a little warmth around your neck can help keep away the chill. Also, a lot of offices crank up the AC in the summer, and a cowl is nice to help keep the air off your neck. And of course, if you make it now, you can have it ready to go when autumn/winter returns.
Project Bags
I've told you before about using those nifty little plastic bags that bras and bed sheets come in to take along a small project when you go on a trip, etc. I recently purchased some sheets which came in a nice little cloth bag. The extra pillow cases also come in little bags, which are perfect for a small project, needles, a few notions, and a copy of your pattern. I love these! They are soft, pretty and just the right size for carrying along where ever you go! I got mine at Walmart, but I am sure you can find them in any store that sells sheets.
Longer Stitch Videos
You asked, and now you will receive! An overwhelming majority of you voted to have longer videos demonstrating cable and lace stitches. I will still be doing the shorter, less complicated stitch videos, but now will also be including longer videos too. You can find all of the stitch videos over on The Weekly Stitch.

This is my latest pattern. I chose the name because the colors of the yarn remind me of the beautiful fall colors, and the acorn cable stitch pattern I used. You are, of course, free to use any color of yarn you like! Gauge is not critical for this pattern, and feel free to substitute any other medium weight, similar yarn if you are not able to find the one I used.
This pattern uses a yarn called Waves, which is a 70% wool / 30% soy blend. (Same as Patons SWS, which has been discontinued).
This is a fairly quick knit, and great for keeping the chill away. You can purchase the pattern over on Craftsy.
Here are some pictures of the blocking and seaming done on the cowl. Blocking is optional, but I do recommend it to open up the beautiful cable stitch pattern. You don't need anything special to block the cowl. I just pinned mine onto a towel on the bedroom floor. Just be sure you have a place that is out of reach of toddlers, cats and any other curious creatures.
For the seaming up, use any method you like. I like to sew under the stitches of the cast on and bind off edges, and pull the needle up through the loop of the yarn on the needle. This makes a firm seam that is nice and neat.
